DIY Cleaner for the Inside of Car Windshield
Clear windshield inside and out is important to have a good visibility. But sometimes cleaning the inside of your windshield can be a pain in the neck because of streaks and fogs. You will see yourself end up going to auto supply shops and buying instant cleaning materials. Unfortunately, it will just double the work. You will get so annoyed to see streaks are all over after cleaning using these instant cleaning agents. Plus, mostly commercial windshield cleaners contained methanol, a poisonous chemical dangerous to health. Adding the challenge is the angle and the position of dashboard making it really difficult to clean.
But do you know that with the right tools, right knowledge and less budget (Yes, affordable!), you can make your own version of cleaning agent? Here’s a DIY windshield cleaner and tips to properly clean the inside of your windshield.
Things you need:
- 1 Empty clean spray bottle – to use during the cleaning
- 1 empty (clean) gallon jug
- 1 tablespoon Dishwashing Liquid
- ½ cup White Vinegar
- Microfiber cloth
- Gallon of Distilled water
- Tissue paper
- Blue food coloring (optional) – so it would be easy to know what the liquid is for.
Instruction:
- Just mix up all the ingredients in a gallon sized container thoroughly.
- Once done, pour some into your spray bottle. Just enough to clean your windshield.
- Wipe your windshield first using a clean dry microfiber cloth.
- Using the same microfiber, spray the mixture into it and wipe your windshield in a circular motion. When you are doing this, make sure to wipe out any dripping in your dashboard right away using tissue paper to avoid discoloration and white marks.
- Using another clean and dry microfiber and then dry the windshield by wiping in an up and down motion.
That’s it. Your windshield, like it is new.
Tips:
- First and foremost, make sure you clean the outside of your windshield before cleaning the inside. It will be better use different strokes. For example, you clean the outside using the horizontal stroke, and then clean the inside using the up and down stroke. In this way, you will see which side is leaving the streaks.
- Have in mind that you are using dishwashing liquid which is known for its greaseless formula. Be sure to not let the mixture sits in your dashboard because your dashboard has wax coating.
- It would be better to work the first half first (the passenger side) then continue all the steps in the driver side.
- If by chance that you drop your microfiber cloth in the dashboard, it is better to replace it with new to avoid any wax sticking.
- If you are leaving in a cold weather country, you should use about 16 ounces of rubbing alcohol instead of vinegar. Or vodka if you don’t have rubbing alcohol. Then for dishwashing liquid, you can use castile soap.
